Every color is said to evoke a different emotion. That is why it is important to pick a warming color that not just you will like but everyone as will too.
“Decorating with Color,” an article posted on living.aprtments.com provides a list of the most commonly used home colors and what they represent.
So, let’s get to it and start with the most common colors. Some people believe colors to not only create emotion but to sometimes help physically as well.
“The color RED is the warmest of all colors; it’s associated with heat, love and comfort, it symbolizes action, confidence, passion, courage, life, survival, passion, lust and vitality.”
Overall, red is thought to create excitement and is often used by therapists to help people overcome anxiety issues.

“YELLOW is a color that is great for kitchens as one of the properties of the color is to increase metabolism. Yellow symbolizes happiness, joy, wisdom, intellectual energy and it brings clarity and awareness into a room.”
Yellow is warm and positive. It represents feelings of a sunny day and pleasant moods. People often use yellow in an infant’s room because it is soothing and cheerful, while being linked to stimulating the mind.
“If you’re a big nature buff, go GREEN. It symbolizes nature, self-respect, life, tranquility, good luck, fertility, health, learning, growth, transformation, money, harmony, well-being and, on the negative side, jealousy.”
Interestingly enough, green can be used as an invigorating neutral color. While white is neutral and plain, green is neutral in the sense that it creates balance and stimulation. It is often believed to have a healing sensation.
“Yes, BLUE can bring about feelings of sadness but it is also the most calm, serene and soothing color.”
Since it is the least appetizing color, you may want to eat out of a blue plate when dieting, however, painting your kitchen walls blue may not be a wise decision. Blue has also been related creating a good working atmosphere so a blue office is not uncommon.
“The color PURPLE is magical and mysterious.”
It represents wisdom, spirituality and wisdom. Bright purple is exotic, while light purple is romantic.
“BROWN is comfy.”
Brown symbolizes the earth, strength and reliability. It is also said to stimulate the appetite; so again, diets and brown are not a good combination.
There are obviously a number of other combinations and shades of all these colors, but you get the gist of it.
And that brings us to BLACK.
“Although it’s dark and moody, symbolizing death, mourning, menace, unhappiness, the unknown, formality and evil, let’s face it, the color black can also be classy and sophisticated.”
So, before you just pick a random cool or pretty color to paint your bedroom or kitchen, remember what they represent psychological. It may make a difference.
